what is detoxification?

Detoxification is the process that our bodies use to clear or neutralize toxins that need to be eliminated. Toxins can come from either one of two main sources: internal or external toxins.

what are internal toxins?

Internal toxins are the wastes that are created inside of our bodies during its daily functioning. These occur during biochemical, metabolic and cellular processes and need to be eliminated. An example of this is free radicals. Our thoughts, emotions and stress can also create biochemichal toxins in our body.

what are external toxins?

External toxins are any toxic substances that come directly from outside our body. These include substances that we may find in our pesticides found in our food, pollution in our air and water, medications we take, recreational drugs, cigarettes and alcohol are all common examples. Our body has to work hard to deal with all of these exogenous toxins.

However, our body is quite amazing. We have natural systems and processes in place to elminate toxins from our body.

then why do we need to do a detox?

Problems arise when these systems are overburdened or overloaded trying to process and eliminate too many toxins. This is a problem of excess.

Unfortunately, in modern society today we are dealing with excess toxins on a daily basis. Pesticides, heavy metals, PCBs, organochlorides, bisphenol-A, phthalates, PVC - these are just some of the toxic substances found in our everyday lives. These toxins are found in our kids toys, our cosmetics, our fish, our fresh fruits and vegetables, in our garden, in our water. They are ubiquitous.
